'14 of us gathered in a surprisingly busy Groombridge, everyone looking forward to this 10.5-mile circular walk. The extreme heat of the last few days had subsided, the slightly cooler temperature resulting in almost perfect walking conditions. Within minutes of leaving the village we entered open countryside, passing Sherlock Farm before joining the High Weald Landscape Trail past Motts Hill and Park Grove. Following a quick break in the shade of a magnificent oak we arrived at the well-kept grounds of Buckhurst Park, before continuing to Withyham church for our picnic; we were well ahead of schedule! We returned along the Wealdway, crossing the Forest Way trail on a couple of occasions, then walking along the banks of the River Medway. Leaving the Wealdway, we picked up the 3rd of the long-distance paths, returning to Groombridge via the Sussex Border Path. My thanks to everyone for participating and to making it such an enjoyable day out........'
