'Another walk in support of the High Weald Walking Festival, this walk starting from Pett would take us to the Southern edge of the Weald where the Wealden ridge meets the sea between Hastings and Winchelsea. 13 people attended, most local to the area. Our route headed North to Pickham Mill, a corn mill powered by water which was operational until the end of the 19th century. St Laurence's Church, Guestling would be the location for our first stop, the church which was built in the 11th century now stands alone but the original village was believed to be centred around the church. Similar to many other locations across the country, the villagers moved further away due to victims of the Black Death being buried in the churchyard. We passed through quiet woodland and open farmland to reach our picnic spot on the cliff East of Fairlight. With the sun shining, we had some fabulous views of the English Channel and the beaches of, Pett, Winchelsea, Camber, with Dungeness power stations clearly visible in the distance. Having admired the views, we continued to Cliff End, Old Marsham Farm and Market Wood, arriving at our starting point ahead of schedule. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed the walk, we hope to see some of the locals joining our Rother Group walks in the near future.....'
